High School seniors give jerseys to teachers and administrators who have had a significant impact on their lives
Giving thanks to those who have made a positive impact on our lives is a simple act that can make a huge difference. In Cookeville, Tennessee, Cookeville High School’s senior football players have started a new tradition called “My Jersey, Our Journey,” where they give their jerseys to teachers or administrators who have had a significant impact on their lives. This act of gratitude has touched the hearts of the teachers and administrators and has created a positive light during a challenging time.
The tradition started in 2021 as a way to boost morale in the school. The last few years have been challenging for the students and staff at Cookeville High School, with the pandemic and a tornado hitting the area in 2020. The “My Jersey, Our Journey” tradition has brought some positivity and gratitude back to the students and staff, and it’s clear that it has been appreciated by all.
The senior football players put a lot of thought into who they wanted to give their jerseys to. They chose teachers and administrators who had taught them important life lessons and had made a significant impact on their lives. The act of giving their jerseys to these individuals was a symbol of gratitude and appreciation for everything they had done.
Clayton Barrett, a senior football player, gave his jersey to Scott Cook, the CHS wrestling coach, and physical education teacher. Barrett said that Cook had taught him the most life lessons he could use outside of the sports program and that he wanted to give him his jersey as a sign of appreciation. Cook was touched by the gesture and said that he would wear the jersey proudly.
Another senior football player, Andy Crockett, gave his jersey to Principal Max Petett. Crockett said that he appreciated Petett and that he was a great principal. Petett was grateful for the gesture and said that he would wear the jersey proudly.
Senior Sam Harness gave his jersey to Randy Mansell, a construction teacher who had a significant impact on his life. Harness had had Mansell as a teacher for all four years of high school and said that he had taught him many life lessons. Mansell was grateful for the gesture and said that he would wear the jersey proudly.
The act of giving a jersey to someone who has been an inspiration is a new tradition for CHS’s student-athletes. However, it has already made a significant impact on the teachers and administrators who have received them. Michelle Bowman, one of the assistant principals at CHS, said that the students had loved the positive light that the tradition had brought back into their lives.
“I think it’s great for the kids to reflect as well and show that sign of appreciation,” said Julie Smith, CHS school counselor. The act of showing appreciation is not only good for the teachers and administrators who receive it, but it’s also good for the students who learn the importance of gratitude and appreciation.
The school is hoping that this tradition will continue into basketball season. It’s clear that the act of giving a jersey to someone who has had a significant impact on your life is a simple act of gratitude that can make a huge difference. It’s a tradition that should be continued, not just at Cookeville High School but at schools all over the world. Showing appreciation for those who have made a positive impact on our lives is something that we should all do more often. It’s a simple act that can make a huge difference.
