The NASCAR Foundation has raised more than $41 million and helped over 1.5 million children in need
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 21, 2022) – The NASCAR Foundation and Daytona International Speedway will team up again to bring back the License to Drive event on Monday, January 24, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET.
New this year, participants who pay $50 per vehicle will have the opportunity to drive their car for two laps around the iconic 3.56 -mile World Center of Racing Road Course, experiencing what the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) drivers will have to endure during the Rolex 24. Fans will be led by a Daytona International Speedway Safety/Pace vehicle.
“We’re excited to bring back this fundraising event which has become a fan favorite,” said Nichole Krieger, The NASCAR Foundation Executive Director. “The support we received from the community last year during our first-ever License to Drive event at Daytona International Speedway was incredible and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back at The World Center of Racing.”
The License to Drive event will provide guests the opportunity to take their street-legal vehicles around the historical venue at 55 mph. No passing will be allowed. All participants will be required to stay in their vehicles at all times.
Since it was established in 2006, The NASCAR Foundation has raised more than $41 million and helped over 1.5 million children in need. The License to Drive event will continue these efforts, with all proceeds from the day’s activities benefiting the Foundation’s initiatives, aimed at improving the health and wellness of children in both Daytona Beach and in race markets across the country.
In December 2021, The NASCAR Foundation was joined by KSDT CPA and JD Motorsports drivers Ryan Vargas and Bayley Currey to build a playset and surprise a 6-year-old cancer patient and his family.
Roy, who has been battling cancer and was admitted to surgery yesterday, will be surprised to see his new playset in his backyard as photos and video will be shared to bring joy and hope to Roy as he recovers.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with The NASCAR Foundation in bringing some joy, especially during the holiday season, to pediatric cancer warriors,” said Jeff Taraboulos, managing partner, KSDT. “It makes me proud and humbled to see the outpouring of support from our amazing staff at KSDT. They showed up to make a difference in someone’s life. These projects may seem small but, they have huge ripple effects on everyone involved.”
