Donations, Determination, and Compassion Are Helping Rochester Families This Holiday Season
Simply Crepes in Rochester, N.Y., is proving once again that when a community comes together, big things can happen. After demand far outpaced supply during its most recent food distribution, the beloved restaurant announced it will once again offer free turkeys and grocery bags to families next Tuesday.
The owners shared that they handed out 80 grocery bags during the latest event, each now upgraded to include a whole 15-pound turkey, thanks to a surge of public generosity and contributions from Simply Crepes itself. What truly transformed the effort was the success of their GoFundMe campaign. According to the family, the fundraiser created after last week’s event has already raised more than $7,000, allowing them to expand what they offer and reach more families in need.
Even with this outpouring of support, the need in the community was undeniable. Families began lining up around the building by 11:30 a.m. for the 1 p.m. opening, and all 80 bags were gone within just 25 minutes. Staff said they were grateful but heartbroken to have to turn away families once supplies ran out.
The final distribution is scheduled for next Tuesday, Nov. 25. With the remaining funds, Simply Crepes expects to provide fully loaded grocery bags—including a 15-pound turkey, eggs, bacon, butter, flour, produce, bread, coffee, and even a kids’ snack kit—to another 80 families. Donations are still being accepted, and the restaurant reminds the public that $50 covers one full Thanksgiving grocery bag.
In a season meant for gratitude, Simply Crepes is showing what true community spirit looks like. Their commitment, combined with neighbors’ generosity, is bringing hope and nourishment to families who need it most. It’s a reminder that kindness is contagious—and that every act of giving, no matter the size, strengthens the bonds of a community.
