Stranded in a Storm, Welcomed Like Family
“It’s time to get uplifted!”—a moment to embrace the good happening around us.
In 2021, Texas faced a devastating winter storm that left many stranded in unexpected places. Among them was Chelsea Timmons. She is a delivery driver from Houston. Chelsea found herself stuck in a flowerbed after attempting one last delivery in Austin.
A Texas delivery driver says she feels “amazingly blessed”. A couple, Nina Richardson and Doug Condon, offered to let her stay at their home. Her car got stuck amid the storm.
Her first plan was simple—finish deliveries early, head home, and enjoy Valentine’s chocolates. But fate had other plans. She navigated treacherous roads for over an hour before arriving at the couple’s home. Then, she lost control of her car due to icy conditions. “Luckily I didn’t have enough momentum to cause damage,” she recalled.
With towing services unavailable and ride-shares out of the question, Chelsea was invited inside to wait out the storm. What was meant to be a short stay turned into five days of unexpected warmth, kindness, and new friendships.
“These people let a complete STRANGER stay the night! Not only that but cooked me a STEAK DINNER! Definitely not how I imagined my Valentine’s Day!”
As the days went by, Chelsea became part of their little family. She shared meals and bonded with their two dogs. They even convinced her to stay longer for her own safety.
“Every morning, when I suggested leaving to a hotel, [they say], ‘Could you make it there safely? What would you eat? What if they lose power? Isn’t the guest room better than the Hampton Inn?'”
When the storm finally cleared, Chelsea prepared to leave—but not without a heartfelt send-off. The couple packed her car with water, sandwiches, and blankets for the journey home.
Reflecting on her experience, Chelsea shared, “God truly #Anchored me during this storm and sent me amazing Guardian Angels.”
In a time of crisis, a simple act of kindness brought strangers together. It turned them into family. This act proved that even in the harshest storms, the warmth of humanity prevails.
