Roll Model Magic: A Mother-Daughter Dream on Wheels
“When we say that we want to be role models in our community, what we mean is just showing up for our customers and other small business owners and everyone else in the community,” said Jessica Ryan, Co-owner of Roll Model. “And the ways that we want people show up for us.”
Roll Model is more than just a clever name. It’s a real food truck run by a mother and daughter—Jessica Ryan and Abigail Hoege—who had a big dream and made it come true in Frankfort, Michigan. They started at the local farmers market, and now they’re rolling into their first year making fresh, healthy food at Menus on Main food truck circle.
“We’ve been dreaming of having a food-based business for decades at this point… okay, this might be a dream we can actually bring to fruition,” said Ryan.
Their business focuses on vegan and gluten-free food using fresh, locally grown ingredients. Think fast food—but good for you! Their “OG roll” is packed with crunchy veggies, herbs, tofu, and rice noodles, all wrapped up in delicate rice paper.
Even better? You get to customize your roll. Add in things like basil, mint, sesame seeds, peanuts, or carrots—then dip it in their signature peanut sauce. Delicious and healthy? Yes, please.
“We like to think that we’re almost doing fast food, but there’s nothing bad in it for you. It’s all locally sourced, whole ingredients,” said Ryan.
They’re also masters of drinks. One favorite is their agua fresca, a fizzy fruit juice with real ingredients. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can turn it into a “dirty soda” with creamy coconut creamer. Strawberry lemonade? Yes. Peach and blueberry? Double yes.
“Sometimes we have an idea and we try it out and, like, we nail it down right away,” said Ryan.
“And that is just, like, the coolest thing ever,” said Hoege.
From smoothies to rolls to drinks, everything is made with care—and teamwork. Their bond is a huge part of what makes their food so special.
“We have a really nice synergy,” said Ryan. “We don’t really require a lot of communication. We just like, we vibe really well… like just getting in and getting our hands in the food and creating.”
This food truck isn’t just about healthy food—it’s about spreading love, kindness, and creativity. Their motto says it all: Heart Center Artful Cuisine.
They hope others, especially other moms and daughters, will be inspired to start something together too.
“I would just say, just go for it the sky’s the limit,” said Ryan. “I think I think honestly, I can’t really imagine anyone else I would want to have as my business partner.”
Roll Model is more than just a cool food truck—it’s proof that dreams can come true when you mix passion, teamwork, and love. Jessica and Abigail aren’t just feeding people; they’re showing us how powerful it is to chase your dream and give back to your community. Their story definitely makes me want to eat healthier—and maybe even start something with someone I care about.
