From Cookies to Community: The Sweet Story of a Porch Bakery
Outside of Aida Serrano’s home sits something special—“a wooden structure with a pink canopy filled with lots of sweet treats.” But this isn’t your typical bake sale. It’s the Mommy and Me Porch Bakery, and it’s baking up joy in northwest Las Vegas, one cookie at a time.
It all began when Serrano’s adult daughter spotted a fun trend online. “My daughter started saying, ‘Look at this. Like, why don’t we do this?’” Though Serrano was nervous at first, she took the leap. Now, she bakes while her daughter handles the business side and their growing Instagram account, which has already racked up over 10,000 followers in just two months.
Originally, they planned to bake just on weekends. “So, at the beginning, we thought we wanted to just do it on Fridays and then just for the weekend,” said Serrano. “But it’s been busy — sometimes a lot.” Their goodies—ranging from $3 cookies to $15 specialty loaves—fly off the shelf. Literally.
Here’s the twist: this bakery has no cashier. It runs entirely on the honor system. Customers pick up their goodies and pay via QR codes for Cashapp and Venmo, Zelle, or drop cash in a box. There’s a camera for safety, but the trust in their community is what really makes it sweet.
The menu is stacked with mouthwatering options: sourdough loaves, muffins, brownies, and every kind of cookie you can imagine. Want something special? Customers can pre-order through Instagram, and pickup is available either at the porch or a nearby pet grooming shop called Wigglin’ Out Henderson.
What makes this story so powerful is the community behind it. “We have a very, very good community,” said Serrano. “The neighbors have been very nice. We see them walking and buying, so we’re just very grateful for all of them.”
Right now, there are no plans for a storefront, but there’s no doubt this little pink-canopied cabinet is full of heart and hustle.
This story proves that you don’t need a fancy store or big investors to start something amazing—you just need heart, creativity, and trust. Aida and her daughter show us that when you mix passion with courage (and a few oatmeal cookies), sweet things can happen.
