Denton Couple Welcomes Twin Girls with a Unique Start to Life
For most parents, the birth of twins means double the joy and shared milestones. For Kali Jo and Cliff Scott of Denton, Texas, their twin daughters will have a unique story. This story will always be personal to them. Born just minutes apart, Annie Jo and Effie Rose entered the world on separate days — and in different years.
On New Year’s Eve, Kali Jo was admitted early to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton for monitoring. The clock approached midnight. Doctors determined that a C-section was necessary. This was a week and a half before the twins’ expected due date. At 11:55 p.m., baby Annie Jo made her debut as the hospital’s final baby of 2022. Just six minutes later, at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, Effie Rose arrived, becoming the first baby born at the hospital in 2023.
The twins, weighing in at a healthy 5.5 pounds each, are doing well, and their parents couldn’t be more thrilled. Kali Jo reflected on their daughters’ unique birth story. She said, “We had joked. We thought, like, ‘wouldn’t it be funny if…’ was with the holiday. New Year’s Eve was over the weekend.” It turned out that was more of a possibility than we realized.
Both parents are excited about the individuality this rare occurrence will offer their daughters. “One will always get the glitter and confetti of New Year’s Eve. The other gets to kick off a brand-new year on New Year’s Day,” Kali Jo shared. “It’s a fun way to celebrate their uniqueness.”
The unusual timing also brings some practical considerations. The girls’ birth years affect youth sports eligibility. They also influence tax filings. Nonetheless, these are minor matters to the Scotts. They are focused on celebrating their daughters’ health and individuality. As Cliff noted, “It happened so quick we haven’t processed all of it yet, but we love it.”
Each daughter will have her own special day. The Scotts are looking ahead to celebrating their twins’ milestones. They want to honor each daughter’s distinct personality. It’s a story of serendipity and joy that the family and their community will treasure for years to come.
