One mystery woman brought calm to a frightened child—and now a grateful mom is searching for her
In the aftermath of a violent car accident in Boise, Idaho, one mother is seeking a woman she’s never met—a stranger who sat with her daughter when she couldn’t.
“To know that she had someone comforting her when I couldn’t be there was huge,” said Charlee Smith, reflecting on the terrifying moment her young daughter Amory was involved in a rollover crash.
It was a Monday night in 2019, around 8:30 p.m., when Charlee’s friend was driving Amory home. That drive took a traumatic turn when their gray Volkswagen Jetta rolled, trapping the driver inside.
“The car had rolled, my friend was trapped, she couldn’t breathe, she had cracked her ribs, she couldn’t get out of her seatbelt, they actually had to cut her out of the car,” Smith recalled.
But amid the chaos, one woman appeared—unknown and unannounced—and became a beacon of calm.
“But this woman, I’m not sure where she came from and I don’t have a name for her, but she pulled my daughter out of the back seat and sat there with her until the paramedics came, she sat there and held her hand.”
Amory escaped with minor injuries—just scrapes and bruises—while her mom’s friend sustained several cracked ribs but is expected to recover.
Now, Charlee Smith is on a mission—not for closure, but for gratitude.
“I would love to take her out for coffee and say ‘thank you so much for doing that for my girl,’” she said.
