From Soap to Shine: One Family Business is Spreading Positivity with Every Bar
“I say, ‘Live and let Vickie.’”
“My grandpa always had super sensitive skin, and my grandma made him soap.”
“Then, it just kind of spun off from that.”
“It’s a mutual friendship, and you know, family, of course.”
“Really wholesome bath and body products.”
“Kentucky Appalachian people are fighters, so they try with all their hearts to always come back and have a life.”
Vickie and Sarah are more than just soapmakers—they’re creators of calm, makers of memories, and community champions. Their small business, Positive Attraction Soaps Co., started from a sweet family tradition and bloomed into a purpose-filled passion.
It all began when Sarah’s grandma made soap for her husband’s sensitive skin. Years later, Sarah and her mom, Vickie, started making soap together as a bonding activity. Soon, friends and family couldn’t get enough. People started asking to buy the gifts they’d been given. And just like that, a business was born.
Now based in Beattyville, Kentucky, Positive Attraction Soaps Co. sells a ton of handcrafted goodies—like soaking salts, hair serum, body lotion, herbal dry shampoo, and their crowd-favorite: soaps and lotions. They even grow their own ingredients like calendula, lemongrass, lavender, and eucalyptus right on their organic botanical farm.
Their products are not only beautiful, they’re made with care. One example? Their Tea Tree + Lavender Soap includes rose oil and charcoal and smells amazing. Plus, it’s packed with natural antibacterial properties.
Vickie dreams up the products, and Sarah handles design and marketing. This mom-daughter team proves that teamwork and trust (plus a little lavender) can go a long way.
You can find their creations in stores across Kentucky—or order online and get good vibes delivered to your door. Their work also supports their Appalachian community, which continues to rise above the challenges of flooding and other hardships.
If you’re ever near Red River Gorge, only 20 minutes from Beattyville, you might even catch a whiff of patchouli in the breeze.
Vickie and Sarah are a perfect example of how love, creativity, and a strong bond can grow into something amazing. Their story shows that even something as simple as a bar of soap can have a big impact—on your skin, your community, and your heart. I definitely want to support their business, and maybe even visit Beattyville one day to see their magic in person.
