Lost and Found: A Beachside Proposal, a Missing Ring, and a Community’s Heartwarming Rescue Effort
Love is not what the mind thinks, but what the heart feels

Love stories often come with their share of unforgettable moments, and for Brian Quercia and Anna Davis, one such moment became the centerpiece of their extraordinary tale. On the picturesque shores of Tybee Island, Georgia, a joyful proposal quickly turned into a heart-wrenching ordeal when a precious diamond engagement ring slipped away just seconds after the fateful question was popped.
The Engagement: A Joyous Beginning
As the sun kissed the sandy shores of Tybee Island, Georgia, Brian Quercia dropped to one knee, the salty breeze carrying his nervous excitement. In his trembling hands, he held a delicate velvet box, a symbol of his unwavering love for Anna Davis. With quivering anticipation, he opened the box to reveal a stunning diamond solitaire ring, its brilliance rivaling the glimmering sea. With a hopeful heart, he asked the question that would change their lives forever, “Will you marry me?”
In that magical moment, love hung in the air, and Anna Davis, touched by the sincerity in Brian’s eyes, joyfully exclaimed, “Yes!” It was a dream come true for the couple, a promise of a future filled with love and shared adventures.
The Heartbreaking Turn of Events
However, the romantic scene took an unexpected twist. As Brian rose to embrace his newly betrothed, the unthinkable happened – the precious ring tumbled from its box. Time seemed to slow as the engagement ring descended and disappeared into the wet sand, swallowed by the unforgiving grains.
Photographer Taylor Brown, who was there to capture the proposal, vividly recalled the moment: “He stood up to hug her, and the ring fell out of the box.”
Despite their frantic efforts and the assistance of the sympathetic photographer, the engagement ring remained elusive, lost beneath the sandy surface.
A Plea for Help
Devastated by the loss of her beloved ring, Anna Davis turned to the Tybee Island community for support. She took to the Tybee Island Facebook group to share her heartrending story and enlist the help of kind-hearted strangers.
In a post accompanied by a photograph from the proposal, she wrote: “LOST ENGAGEMENT RING!! Hey everyone! Yesterday my boy proposed to me right past the jetties on North Beach. It was magical & I said yes!!! Unfortunately, my beautiful ring somehow fell out of the box when we hugged and the ring is now lost. If you happen to find it, please send me a private message. There will be a reward!”
The response was overwhelming. Compassionate individuals flooded the post with messages of hope, encouragement, and offers of assistance. The community rallied together to help Brian and Anna recover the symbol of their love.
A Hero Emerges: “Mr. Foy”
Among those moved by the couple’s plight was a local metal detectorist known affectionately as “Mr. Foy.” Armed with only a photograph provided by Taylor Brown, Mr. Foy embarked on a mission to locate the lost engagement ring.
Using the image as a reference point, Mr. Foy scoured the sands of Tybee Island with his metal detector, his determination unwavering. And then, in a twist of fate, just 20 minutes into his search, he unearthed the precious ring. It had been resting just an inch below the surface, patiently waiting to be reunited with its rightful owner.
A Heartwarming Reunion
Anna Davis wasted no time sharing the good news with the community that had rallied behind her. She updated her Facebook post with an exuberant message: “UPDATE!!!!! Thanks to so many sweet people who went and searched for my ring. Sweet Mr. Foy here found my ring within 20 minutes of searching Tybee today! We are so excited and relieved!!! I absolutely love it, Brian Quercia.”
With the engagement ring back where it belonged, Anna and Brian’s love story continued to flourish. The couple shared their joy with the world, posting engagement photos on Instagram and expressing their excitement about the future together.
Anna wrote, “The ring is actually on my finger! I wanna show off my incredible FIANCÉ!!! It’s been a crazy 24 hours. What a story to tell our kids & grandkids about this one day! So excited to do life with you.”
A Future Filled with Love
As they move forward with plans for their upcoming wedding in nearby Savannah, Brian and Anna’s love story is marked not only by the beauty of their engagement but also by the incredible kindness of their community. In a moment of despair, they found support, compassion, and a hero in “Mr. Foy.”
Their tale is a reminder that love can conquer even the most unexpected challenges, and that, sometimes, a helping hand from strangers can turn a heartbreaking loss into a heartwarming reunion.
In the end, it’s a story of love, sand, and a diamond engagement ring that found its way back home.
