Home for the Holidays: A Celebration of Love and Family

On a memorable Thursday, Circuit Judge Barbara Hobbs finalized the adoptions of seven children. She ensured they would spend the season embraced by their forever families. Among those celebrating was Kierra Britt, who officially adopted a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl. These children, her biological cousins, have known her as “Mom” since birth. My whole family loves them and has accepted them,” Britt said, beaming with pride. “This is the best Christmas gift we ever get.”
Britt also shared how her older son has been an extraordinary big brother to his new siblings. His love and support inspired her decision to formally adopt. “They love him. He’s their big brother, and he paved the way for me to do this,” she shared. Their story reminds us of the importance of keeping family ties strong. It also highlights preserving bonds that nurture children in times of need.
Brittney Williams, another adoptive parent, traveled from Panama City to make her family whole. Williams began fostering a 5-year-old girl last year and soon realized the connection between them was something special. “She came, and I knew she was supposed to stay,” Williams reflected. Over time, the young girl flourished in her care, growing into a vibrant, intelligent, and creative little girl.
At the adoption ceremony, Williams and her family wore matching puzzle-piece t-shirts. These t-shirts symbolized the completion of their family with the newest member. The imagery spoke volumes about the beauty of adoption, filling gaps in hearts and lives. Williams couldn’t hold back her joy, saying, “I can’t even remember what it was like without her. It was just meant to be.”
