A Rare New Year’s Celebration at Yale New Haven Hospital
For parents Mykel and Aliyah Kiyomi Morris, the arrival of their twin babies brought extraordinary timing. It was also a moment of great joy. The couple welcomed their son, Seven Morris, at 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2023, marking the last birth of the year at Yale New Haven Hospital. Just three minutes later, at 12:02 a.m. on January 1, 2024, their daughter, Souli Morris, became the hospital’s first baby of the new year.
Both babies were born healthy, each weighing six pounds and nine ounces. The hospital said the family is “doing great and getting some well-deserved rest.” The unique birth timing makes Seven and Souli part of a rare group of twins born in separate years. While such occurrences capture headlines, they aren’t entirely unprecedented. Similar New Year’s births were reported in earlier years, including twins born in different years in 2021 and 2022.
The Morris twins weren’t the only notable arrivals in Connecticut this New Year’s. Hartford Hospital celebrated the birth of Baby Gatewood, a boy born to Murielle and Sterling Gatewood at 12:06 a.m. He weighed in at seven pounds, nine ounces and was affectionately called their “New Year’s blessing.” At St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Tiffany and Angel welcomed their son Myles at 12:23 a.m., weighing seven pounds, ten ounces. His parents said it was the “perfect way to start the New Year.”
These joyous events remind us that New Year’s Eve and Day are not just moments of celebration. They are also a time for new beginnings and unforgettable stories.
