Love Conquers the Waves: A Proposal Plunge to Remember
Love stories are often filled with unexpected twists, and for Scott Clyne of Sarasota, Florida, his proposal became an unforgettable tale of determination and triumph. What began as a picturesque sunset on a boat quickly turned into a heart-pounding moment that would leave both him and his girlfriend, Suzie Tucker, in awe.
In a now-viral video shared by Clyne on Facebook, the couple stood at the bow of the boat, arms outstretched, the Florida sun setting the scene for what should have been a perfect proposal. As Clyne, 35, reached into his pocket for the ring box, anticipation hung in the air. But then, in a heartbeat, the box slipped from his grasp and plunged into the water below.
Without a second thought, Clyne took the plunge after it. The video captures the tense moments as he disappears underwater, leaving Tucker, 32, in a mix of surprise and concern. Moments later, Clyne resurfaces, triumphant, holding the ring box aloft. Tucker can’t help but burst into laughter at the sheer audacity and determination of her soon-to-be fiancé.
A friend on the boat, quick to react, extended a helping hand, retrieving the ring from Clyne and securing it safely on the vessel. With the ring safely back on board, Clyne, now dripping with seawater, turned to his love, determined to make this moment count.
Undeterred by the unexpected turn of events, Clyne took a deep breath, got down on one knee, and recreated the proposal. Though the video doesn’t capture the audio, Tucker’s laughter and the ensuing kiss spoke volumes. Love had triumphed over the odds, and Clyne’s persistence had paid off in the most unexpected way.
In a Facebook caption, Clyne humorously admitted, “This is 100% real. 100% my luck. 100% will never forget…”. His profile photo, a freeze frame from the video, perfectly encapsulates the moment, with his legs in the air and his head submerged, his now-fiancée laughing in the background.
Taking to TikTok, Clyne shared a shorter version of the video, soundtracked by Snoop Dogg’s hit “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” With a shocked emoji overlay, he wrote, “Dropped the ring in the gulf during my proposal,” giving viewers a playful glimpse into the heart-stopping moment.
Recalling the incident with the Daily Mail, Clyne recounted, “I had the ring in my back pocket and when I went to reach for it, the corner of the ring box got caught on the top of my pocket and slipped out of my hands, bouncing into the water.” Panic set in, but Clyne’s instinct was clear: retrieve the ring at all costs. “Everything was a blur after that. I panicked and reacted by lunging for the ring box before it could sink, not caring if I fell into the water. Luckily, I was able to recover the ring!”
The video quickly gained traction, with 1.5 million likes and nearly 28,000 shares on TikTok alone, proving that sometimes, the most memorable moments are the unplanned ones. Clyne’s bold dive into the Gulf of Mexico was a testament to the lengths we’ll go for love and a story that will be told and retold for generations to come.
