Missing dog ‘Piper’ and Carter reunion

Christmas came early for a young boy who was reunited with his lost dog in a heartwarming moment.

A boy who lost his dog several weeks ago had an emotional reunion with his 2-year-old dog on Dec. 3, 20019. April Licata, of Rochester, surprised her son when she picked him up at school. The pug, named Piper, wagged his tail furiously in the front seat of the family car as he saw Carter Licata approach.

When Carter sees Piper, his emotions change from disbelief to excitement and tears of happiness. After Carter puts away his backpack, he hugs Piper tightly in a moment that’s both heartwarming and tear-jerking.

“On November 18, we let our pug, Piper, out to go potty, and she didn’t come back when we called her. It had been a long two and a half weeks for my oldest two children, Carter and Natalie, thinking they would never see their puppy again,” his mom April said.

“Piper was a very special gift for Carter’s 12th birthday: he had always wanted a black pug since he spent his baby years with another pug he loved very much -Oliver- who had to go live with another family while his baby brother was sick. We posted and shared and talked to neighbors, news venues, and community groups but as the days passed, our hope waned.”

April posted notices and made several pleas on social media to track the animal, but her efforts were fruitless until Dec. 2. That’s when she received a telephone call from the Genessee County Animal Shelter.

Officials told her there was a dog matching Piper’s description, and she confirmed it was the family dog, which she called “a Christmas miracle.”
