The man expressed enthusiasm about freeing the deer from the soccer net
A Long Island, New York man named Todd Brush became a hero to a distressed deer that was stuck in a soccer net. Brush, who has a history of rescuing animals, was on his way to work when he stumbled upon the deer entangled in a soccer net on the grounds of Harbor Country Day School in Suffolk County. Despite the deer thrashing around in distress, Brush was determined to save the animal and quickly got to work cutting the net with a utility knife. He spent about 12 minutes working to free the deer and talked to it throughout the rescue to keep it calm. Brush recorded the entire rescue because he didn’t think anyone would believe what happened.
During the rescue, the deer’s frantic movements were so powerful that they lifted the posts of the goal right off the ground. Brush’s hands were shaking as he worked to cut the net because he was afraid of accidentally stabbing the deer. However, he persisted and was eventually able to free the animal. Brush notes that when he watched the video playback of the rescue, he was surprised by how long it had taken, as it felt like it had only lasted a minute.
Following the rescue, Brush contacted the school’s superintendent and offered to pay to replace the net that had been damaged in the process. However, his request was denied after the school saw the video of the distressed animal. Brush wrote a letter to the school explaining what had happened and the superintendent responded, reassuring Brush that someone had to do what he did and not to worry about paying for a new net.
Brush has a long-standing love for animals and has rescued various creatures in the past, including a swan, a mole, squirrels, and even a bat. He states that it’s in his nature to help animals and he’s glad he was in the right place at the right time to rescue the deer. The deer, undoubtedly, would agree.
