Maria Daniela Velasco is Miss Venezuela Earth, anthropologist, and founder of the NGO Ökospiri
Maria Daniela Velasco is a model, an Eco-activist, and an anthropologist specializing in human ecology and certified in sustainable business management at Cambridge University. TV host and environmental ambassador for Venezuela fighting to mitigate plastic pollution, with more than 9 years of experience creating and leading educational campaigns for our youth.
She is supporting the growth of regenerative projects through upcycled plastic vertical gardens, rebuilding rural and urban sites through upcycled art, and serving as a bridge to connect grassroots organizations with resources for their sustainable impact to thrive.
This year, she and her friends used 15,000 plastic bottles to construct a holiday Christmas tree in Caracas, Venezuela, to highlight plastic pollution and encourage eco-friendly celebrations. She expressed “This wish tree is for eco-consciousness in the country. About 15,000 recyclable plastic bottles were used for this tree. There are an estimated 15,000 bottles here, in other words, 15,000 Venezuelans, 15,000 wishes. They all want to see a greener Caracas. This is something sustainable for 2023 as well.”
She said “We are no longer living the 11th hour, but the courage hour. It is time to be loved, to work with compassion, to support each other, to fight for climate and social justice, to think outside the box, and provide our future generations with their right of living a life of dignity on a healthy planet.”
