In an act of bravery and quick thinking, a man named Ryan Peterson saved the lives of three deer stranded on an icy lake. The incident occurred when Peterson spotted a mother deer, along with her two fawns, on the frozen surface of the lake in the middle of a lunch break. Despite their best efforts, the family of deer had become stranded on the icy surface.

Peterson knew that time was of the essence and quickly took action. “I went back to work and grabbed some rope. The ice was still too thin for any kind of vehicle, so skating was the only option.” He approached the mother deer first, carefully looping a cord around her neck. Though she put up a mild struggle, the doe was in no position to bolt, and Peterson was able to safely guide her towards the shore.

Next, Peterson returned for the two fawns, taking care to loop the cord around both of their necks before pulling them towards the safety of the shore. Upon reaching the rocky outcropping where their mother was waiting, it took a few gentle prods with a branch to spur the family off the ice and onto the safety of the solid ground.

Despite his heroic efforts, it remains unclear how the family of deer ended up on the ice in the first place. “I’m not entirely sure how they walked all the way out there,” Peterson said. “But they definitely walked out there.”
