Tuvok12 fittingly secured the #12 position in the worldwide Youtube ranking in 2021
By quadrupling its viewership week-over-week, Tuvok12 fittingly secured the #12 position in the worldwide ranking. The French channel counted 334.8 million weekly views, which also happens to be the majority of its lifetime views on YouTube.
How did Tuvok make such a big upward move in a seven-day span? Unsurprisingly, the channel’s presence on YouTube Shorts is its beating heart. Tuvok’s most popular videos are brief clips that challenge passersby to hit a target with a soccer ball or sink a shot with a basketball. Each person who participates gets a number grade, complete with a descriptive emoji, and in those ratings, Tuvok adds comedy to its content.
It all started 8 years ago. While still in college, in a small town in the Gers, France Tuvok Wassenberg posted videos of him and his friends on Snapchat, for fun. “I liked to film and share moments with my friends, then see them again and laugh among ourselves,” he recalls.
Little by little, what was just a simple hobby becomes a real passion that pushes the young man to take on ever more incredible challenges. In 2019, Tuvok Wassenberg’s videos take a new turn with what he describes as “the craziest experience of his life”. Indeed, he decides to set off on a bicycle from Place Saint-Pierre in Toulouse and throw himself into the Garonne. “I’ve always had this bit of a daredevil side. I have a taste for risk,” he adds, laughing. On social networks, the video is then viewed more than 44,000 times and marks the beginning of growing popularity.
But what really made the young man known was the dexterity challenges he launched to passers-by in the streets of Toulouse. Whether it’s during a shooting contest on a basketball hoop or trying, with a kick, to drop a plastic bottle placed at a good distance.
Today, his videos have accumulated 2 billion views on Tiktok and allow the young man to live from this activity. However, Tuvok Wassenberg does not forget the essentials. Far beyond the figures, what really thrills this adopted Gersois is to convey good humor and make the people around him laugh.
In college, Tuvok Wassenberg was a student with a “good delirium” who was doing “without working too much”, he says. He enjoyed entertaining his classmates as much as his teachers. “I made sure that the teachers also got into the game, into the joke,” he reports.
There are good life lessons to take away from Tuvok. Just remember, if a stranger lobs you a ball in public, you should show off your skills. YouTube is watching.
