BecomingX: Greatness isn’t born. It’s learned.
Meaningful education undoubtfully has the power to transform lives and societies. Students that are being taught valuable skills are more likely to stay in school and will be better prepared for the future, improving their prospects.
Globally, if we look at the big picture, we know that better quality education and improving prospects, especially through educating girls, can help to reduce birth rates, slow population growth, and build more tolerant, inclusive, and peaceful societies.
When thinking of the impact on individuals living in poverty, access to inspiring education can mean having a better chance of overcoming challenges, capturing opportunities, and building a more secure and successful life for themselves and their families.
BecomingX is a learning and development organization that aims to create a world where everyone can realize their potential. BecomingX works with the world’s most inspiring and iconic people to understand the personal attributes that underpin high performance and to help demystify what it really takes to succeed.
Combining their in-depth understanding of high performance and their expertise in personal development, they help education providers and companies to build the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and relationships needed to succeed. BecomingX is a ‘B Corporation’, certified to meet the highest standards of social and environmental impact, and is the highest-scoring education company in the UK.
The facts speak for themselves, young people worldwide and especially in lower-income countries, are not getting the education they deserve and are not being adequately prepared for the future.
- 1 in 5 children, adolescents and youth worldwide is still not attending school (UNESCO, 2018).
- Schooling does not lead to learning and 1 in 6 children & adolescents leave school without a basic level of reading and math skills (UNESCO, 2018)
- Many schools face shortages of teaching staff and those in place lack necessary training.
- Students are learning content that will have a minimal application to their lives – key personal skills and attributes are not being taught.
Using powerful digital content and technology, alongside the expertise of local partners, they are working to develop relevant, inspiring educational resources focused on building ‘life-success’ to share in developing countries, across communities in need.
Their digital lessons and training are helping to build the skills and capabilities of both teachers and students, using inspiring stories and films to bring ideas and concepts to life, alongside evidence-backed tools and activities to put learning into practice.
They are working initially with partners in Africa and are seeing that the lessons and resources can build confidence and aspirations, helping young people living in difficult conditions, to better tackle the challenges the African youth face.
Their programme in Kenya delivers a series of over 30 extracurricular lessons alongside active outdoor camps for young people from 14-20 years old.
The lessons use innovative digital BecomingX resources, focused on building the skills, knowledge, relationships, and attitudes that can help young people better realize their potential. The lesson series aligns with the life skills curriculum in Kenya; covering topics such as effective communication, decision-making, goal setting, problem-solving, and managing mental health.
BecomingX programme is giving students confidence, positivity, and motivation, with many stating that they felt better able to deal with challenges they face in day-to-day life.
Teachers have commented how they have seen improvements in performance and behavior and how they themselves have benefitted from taking part in the programme, improving their own capabilities and understanding.
BecomingX is starting to develop the programme further, expanding it into additional schools and regions across Kenya. They are also working more closely with teachers to provide them with resources and help build their skills and aspirations. Inspired educators can help many more students to realize their potential, creating a greater and lasting impact.
