Jennifer Tsang Yee-ting have put romance aside as she tries to qualify for the 2021 Olympic Games
Love is in the air for martial artists Chris Cheng Tsz-man and Jennifer Tsang Yee-ting, a celebrated couple who both represent Hong Kong in international karate competitions. They are looking ahead to their wedding in January 2021 but are focused first on two goals: to qualify to compete in this year’s Olympic Games in Japan, and to stay clear of the coronavirus.
Karate is at the heart of their love story. The two met while on the Hong Kong national team and started dating in December 2013.
Tsang, 27, competes in the Kumite women’s under-50kg category. Kumite is one of the three main karate disciplines, along with kata and Kihon. She is ranked 23rd in the world. During her 22 years doing karate she has achieved countless accolades, including winning the 5th Urmia Karate Championships in Iran in 2014 and the 6th East Asian Senior Karatedo Championships in Taipei in 2016.
Members of the Hong Kong Karate team victimized coronavirus after returning to Hong Kong from a training camp in Europe. “The coach led four athletes for a training camp in France earlier and returned to Hong Kong in March 2020,” The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) said in a statement. “Three of the athletes including Tsang Yee-ting have tested positive. The HKSI wish speedy recovery for the three athletes and the coach.”
Jennifer isn’t letting her hospitalization due to the coronavirus get in the way of her training, as seen in footage filmed . The Asian Games representative posted parts of her 90-minute workout on Facebook as she keeps her muscle strength and Olympic dream alive from the confined space of a hospital room in Tai Po, Hong Kong.
Known as JT by her friends, Tsang turned professional five years ago and she is currently ranked ninth in the world and looking towards Olympic qualification. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics have been officially delayed due to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak. The games, which were due to be played this summer will now start on July 23rd, 2021.
