Former and Current NFL Stars Show Young Students That Big Dreams Can Start Anywhere
For one afternoon in Oakland, football was about much more than touchdowns, trophies, and winning games. It was about giving children encouragement, creating memories, and showing them that their dreams are worth chasing.
Former and current National Football League players visited Emerson Elementary School as part of the NFL Players Association Community MVP Day. Students had the opportunity to spend time with professional athletes, participate in football drills, enjoy friendly competitions, and simply have fun.
For many students, it was an unforgettable chance to meet athletes they had previously only seen on television.
More Than a Football Event
Former San Francisco 49ers player Chris Draft explained why events like this are so important. While professional football can sometimes seem like it is all about the excitement, celebrations, and spotlight, Draft believes the game can also be a powerful way to connect with communities.
The players weren’t simply there to teach football skills. They were there to listen, encourage, laugh, and remind students that they matter.

Denver Broncos player Garett Bolles, who recently received the Alan Page Community Award, was among the NFL players participating in the event.

The NFL Players Association and matching contributions also provided a $15,000 investment in the school.

Brandon Parker, director of media and communications for the NFL Players Association, said he hoped the students would feel “seen.”
That may be one of the most important gifts anyone can give a young person.
Some children grow up facing difficult circumstances. When life is challenging, it can be easy to focus only on what is happening right now and believe that the future cannot be different.
