Boyfriend proposes to Andrea Diaz hearing for the first time in an emotional video
A video posted by the University of Mississippi Medical Center on Wednesday shows Andrea Diaz reacting to the implant — which is a surgically implanted electronic device that can replace the function of a damaged inner ear. It works by picking up and processing sounds, then delivering them directly to a person’s brain. Shortly after Diaz, overcome with emotion, confirms that she can hear, her boyfriend, Kevin Peakman, has a surprise for her.
“I wanted to make one of the first things that you hear…” he said, trailing off and pulling out a box with a ring. “Because I love you so much and you’re my best friend, baby. I wanted to make the first thing you hear me asking you to marry me.”
“Yes,” Ms. Diaz replies. “I like the ring. I can hear your voice!”
Ms. Diaz is clearly overcome, saying: “There’s so much going on!” before adding: “I’m very happy. It worked!”
