From hopelessness to happiness, PGA golfer Chris Kirk shows that with courage and help, anything is possible.
Chris Kirk, a professional golfer and six-time PGA Tour winner, just reached a huge milestone—five years of sobriety! In April 2024, he celebrated this incredible achievement with a heartfelt message and a powerful reminder that change is possible no matter how hard things might seem.
“5 years!!! I am so thankful to those who have helped me along the way,” Chris wrote in a post on Instagram. “The work never stops but I live a life of peace and contentment that I never knew was possible.”
Chris hasn’t been shy about sharing his story. Back in 2019, he stepped away from golf to focus on his health. He was struggling with depression and alcoholism and knew he needed help. After taking six months off to recover, he made a strong comeback to the tour—and to life.
He didn’t just return—he thrived. In less than a year, Chris won two tournaments: The Honda Classic in 2023 and The Sentry in January 2024. His victories on the golf course are impressive, but his courage off the course is what makes his journey truly inspiring.
“Hey y’all, it’s April 29 and today I’m celebrating five years of sobriety,” he said in a video. “Five years ago I was completely hopeless and couldn’t see any way out. Thankfully I ran into a group of people that had once been hopeless just like me and showed me the way out.”
Chris also shared, “Every good thing, every great thing, every awesome thing that I have in my life is 100 percent because I got sober.”
He was even awarded the PGA Tour’s Courage Award for showing incredible strength in overcoming personal struggles. Chris Kirk proves that heroes aren’t just athletes who win trophies—they’re also people who fight hard to win their lives back.
Chris Kirk’s story is one of bravery, honesty, and hope. He teaches us that even when life feels impossible, there’s a way forward—especially when you reach out for help. His journey reminds us that strength isn’t just about how far you can hit a golf ball—it’s also about how you handle life when things get tough. Chris is more than a winner on the golf course—he’s a true champion in life.
