A service dog’s joyful Disney cruise shows just how deep friendship can go—even with a cartoon pup!
Have you ever seen a dog get starstruck? That’s exactly what happened when Forest, a golden retriever service dog, reunited with his best Disney buddy—Pluto! 🐾🚢
On a recent Disney cruise, Forest had an unforgettable moment when he met a performer dressed as Pluto, his all-time favorite character. In a video that quickly went viral on TikTok, Forest rolls around on the floor, full of joy, snuggling Pluto and proudly holding a little plush version of him in his mouth.
“Proof that distance won’t keep the very best of friends apart ❤️🚢✨ we love you pluto!!!” his owner Ashton McGrady wrote in the video’s caption. Over 2 million people have watched Forest’s pure happiness since the video was posted!
Forest has been with Ashton since March 2020. She says he’s an “absolute goofball” and super loving. “I’ve always said that I’ve never had a dog like him… He is just a very silly, happy-go-lucky kind of dog. And so, so loyal and loving.”
Forest’s love for Pluto began back in 2021 at Disney World. Since then, they’ve met many times! Sometimes Ashton and Forest look for Pluto, and other times Pluto finds them! “Pluto stepped out of the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Walt Disney World to say hello to Forest… It was adorable.”
This magical reunion happened during Ashton’s trip as part of the Disney Creators Lab. It included a visit to the Disney parks and a cruise where Forest even got to splash in the water at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island.
During their meet-up, Forest carried his newest Pluto plush—dressed like a sailor—right up to the real Pluto. And Pluto didn’t just wave… he played! “Pluto actually took the toy from him, stuck it in his mouth, and was fully on the floor playing with him. It was just the most wholesome, sweet moment.” People nearby came out of stores just to watch. Even Disney cast members were wiping away tears!
But the cruise wasn’t just about fun—it was also about learning. Ashton uses her platform to teach others about service dogs and life with a disability. When people asked where dogs go potty on a cruise, she explained that there are special potty areas for service animals. And since she uses a wheelchair, her room had a special potty box on the veranda just for Forest!
“I was able to have a bunch of great educational moments and conversations,” Ashton said. That means people not only saw something adorable—they also learned something important.
Forest’s story reminds us that friendship can come in all shapes, sizes, and even species. His joyful bond with Pluto shows that even cartoon characters can mean a lot to someone—especially a loyal service dog like Forest. And thanks to Ashton, people are learning more about the real work service dogs do while being charmed by the magic of Disney. 🐶🌟
