Quinn Waters had a severely compromised immune system so that he couldn’t go out
One day, Quinn Waters’s two uncles showed up at the front window to have a water balloon fight and help cheer up the 3-year-old. Then, a family friend arrived with his guitar to sing to Quinn on the front lawn, followed by a couple of police officers who roared up on their motorcycles and sounded their sirens and air horns.
The entire Weymouth and Quincy, Mass., police and fire departments came by with lights flashing to visit the child, whose only contact with the outside world the summer was through the front window of his home.
Quinn, who was recovering from treatment for a cancerous brain stem tumor and has a severely compromised immune system, became a household name in the town as hundreds of strangers came by to turn his front lawn into a stage of sorts since then.
“We basically keep him in a bubble just as a precaution,” his dad Jarlath Waters said. “Even a common cold could be something that will bring him back into the hospital,” his mom Tara added.
“He sees all of this happening and he knows he’s stuck inside, and there would be days,” Tara said. “Days when Quinn is literally pounding to get out.”
Now, he becomes 5-year-old and still battling brain cancer but at least, he can go out to explore the world.
