From Sunshine to Snowflakes: BigCheese’s Magical First Snowfall Experience
For most people up north, waking up to a fresh blanket of snow is just another winter morning. But for Florida native Jakeem Johnson, better known as BigCheese, it was nothing short of magical. At 39 years old, he had never seen snow in his life. Earlier this month in 2025, that changed. An unprecedented snowfall covered Tampa in eight to ten inches of winter wonder.
Jakeem, a born and raised Floridian, was sound asleep when his wife woke him with the news: “It’s snowing!” At first, he couldn’t believe it. “What? No way!” he exclaimed. But as soon as he looked outside, the reality set in—his hometown had been transformed into a winter wonderland.
Without hesitation, Jakeem threw on sweatpants and a jumper. He grabbed his gloves (well, most of them) and dashed outside. He wanted to embrace the once-in-a-lifetime moment. He quickly kept a promise he had made long ago. He dropped to the ground and made his very first snow angel.
“I always said if I ever saw snow, I’d do a snow angel. I was a man of my word,” he said, beaming with joy. “It was a joyful, wonderful experience.”
Despite forgetting one of his gloves, the cold couldn’t put a damper on his excitement. The experience left him wanting more. Now, he’s already dreaming of his next snowy adventure. “Next time, I’ll get a sled and find a hill,” he said with a grin. “It makes me feel like you’re never too old to try new things.”
Jakeem’s story is a reminder that life’s simplest pleasures can bring the most joy. Making a snow angel can spark joy. Sledding down a hill is exciting. Experiencing something new for the first time is always special. There’s always room for a little wonder, no matter your age or where you’re from.
